What Yawgoog Offers:
Yawgoog isn't your average summer camp. It's a sprawling reservation packed with activities and opportunities for Scouts to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and bond with their troopmates. Here's a glimpse of what awaits:
Unforgettable Adventures: Imagine canoeing across a pristine lake, conquering a challenging climbing wall, or learning the art of archery. Yawgoog offers a huge range of activities designed to push Scouts beyond their comfort zones in a safe and supportive environment. Whether you're a seasoned outdoorsman or just starting your Scouting journey, there's something for everyone.
Skill Development: Summer camp is a fantastic opportunity to earn merit badges and advance in rank. Yawgoog offers a wide variety of merit badge opportunities, from traditional Scouting skills like camping and first aid to more specialized areas like environmental science and pioneering. Our experienced leaders will be there to guide and support each Scout on their journey.
Camaraderie and Brotherhood: Living and working together in our dedicated campsite fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and brotherhood. Scouts will forge lasting friendships with their fellow troop members, creating bonds that extend far beyond summer camp. These shared experiences build character, teamwork, and leadership skills.
A Tradition of Excellence: Troop 38's long history at Yawgoog means we've developed a strong tradition of excellence. Our Scouts learn from experienced leaders and older Scouts, passing down knowledge and fostering a sense of pride in our troop.
A Place to Grow: Yawgoog provides a unique environment for personal growth. Away from the distractions of everyday life, Scouts have the opportunity to connect with nature, discover their strengths, and develop self-reliance. They'll return home with newfound confidence and a deeper understanding of themselves.
Activities Galore:
Yawgoog is bursting with exciting activities, including (but not limited to!):
Aquatics: Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and even sailing!
Outdoor Skills: Camping, cooking, fire building, and wilderness survival.
Ropes Courses: Climbing walls, zip lines, and other thrilling challenges.
Shooting Sports: Archery, rifle shooting, and shotgun shooting (under careful supervision).
Nature and Conservation: Exploring the natural world, learning about wildlife, and participating in conservation projects.
Crafts and Skills: Leatherworking, woodworking, and other hands-on activities.
Why Yawgoog? Why Troop 38?
For over a quarter of a century, Troop 38 has made Yawgoog our summer camp home. We return year after year because we know the value of this experience. Our Scouts thrive in this environment, learning, growing, and building friendships that last a lifetime. By attending with their troop and the leaders they already know, Scouts feel comfortable and supported, allowing them to fully embrace all that Yawgoog has to offer. Many of our Scouts continue to return to Yawgoog every summer until they turn 18, a testament to the lasting impact of this incredible place.
